CLEAN-UP, RECYCLE & DONATE (dates, times & locations)

As you prepare to CLEAN UP for Spring don’t forget that this is also a great time to RECYCLE and/or DONATE unwanted items. 

With this in mind, we have not only listed the dates and details for the ANNUAL CITY SPRING CLEAN-UP and CLEAN SHELBY DAYS projects, we have also listed links to some great places for you to recycle and make charitable donations.

CLEAN UP

Shelbyville Spring Clean-Up

WHAT: Shelbyville Spring Clean-Up Program
WHEN: Monday, March 31st through Friday, April 11th.  The Spring Clean-Up program will run on the same day as regular trash pick-up.  Please have all trash and other items set out by 7:00 a.m.  Because of the volume of trash being picked up at this time, your trash may be picked up at a different time than usual, so please, be patient.

WHERE:

  • The city will pick up almost any item during this two-week period as long as it is not a hazardous material or one that requires special handling.

DETAILS:

  • The city will pick up almost any item during this two-week period as long as it is not a hazardous material or one that requires special handling.
  • All items are to be set out in a neat and orderly fashion and separated by type, such as wood, metal, etc.  Please do not set these items out any earlier than is absolutely necessary, keep them clear of the sidewalks, streets and alleyways.
  • Friday, April 11th will be the last day that heavy trash will be picked up.  The city will return to the normal trash pick-up which includes having trash bagged and in containers.  Any heavy trash left out after this time frame will be subject to a fine.

  • WILL NOT PICK UP:
    • Tires of any kind, fluorescent bulbs, concrete, computers, or paint in a liquid form
    • Freezers, refrigerators or air conditioners (unless they are tagged showing that the freon gas has been removed professionally)
    • Yard waste material of any type in plastic bags (The landfill yard waste site will not accept plastic bags.  Please put yard waste in a container marked “yard waste” or in paper yard waste bags)
    • Televisions  (Televisions and other electronics can be dropped off at the Shelbyville Street Department throughout the year, at no charge)

  • ACCEPTABLE ITEMS: Trash, Scrap Metal, Tires, Electronic Waste
  • NON-ACCEPTABLE ITEMS:  Hazardous Waste
