Shelbyville FALL CLEAN-UP, RECYCLE & DONATE – October 6-10, 2014 – 7:00am

From the Office of the Street Commissioner, Jennifer Jones, September 11, 2014

The City of Shelbyville is going to have the large, bulky Fall trash pick up again this year in order to help property owners and residents get rid of some of their large items.  This program will be very similar to the Spring Clean-Up Program that we run except that the Fall program will only run one week instead of twoPlease have all trash and other items set out by 7:00 a.m on your trash day.  Because of the volume of trash being picked up at this time, your trash may be picked up at a different time than usual, so please, be patient.

The Fall Clean-Up program will start on Monday, October 6th, and it will end on Friday, October 10th.  It will be on the same day as your regular trash pick up.  After Friday, October, 10th, it will again be the responsibility of the property owner to dispose of their large, bulky items.

The city trash trucks will only pick up bagged trash not weighing over 40lbs that is placed in a container.  Please do not continue to set these bulky items out for the City to remove after this week.

As in the spring, the city will pick up almost any item during this one week period as long as it is not a hazardous material or one that requires special handling.

We will not pick up: tires, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, concrete, or anything that we cannot get rid of. We also will not pick up household remodeling debris or debris from new construction in excessive amounts that require special handling or that was done for hire by someone else. We also cannot collect televisions or concrete.

All items are to be set out in a neat and orderly fashion and separated so that they can be picked up without our guys having to sort them. Please do not set these items out any earlier than is absolutely necessary, and keep them clear of the sidewalks, streets, and alleyways.  Any freezers, refrigerators or air conditioners will not be picked up unless they are tagged showing the Freon gas has been professionally removed from them.

Fall Clean Up items that are set out before and after the designated week

are subject to receiving a ticket.

If you have any questions, please call Ashley Huntsman at the Shelbyville Street Department at 392-5169.

Thank you for you interest and assistance in helping to keep our city clean.
                            Jennifer Jones, Street Commissioner
